Why Transformational Coaching?

To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.
— Henri Bergson

My Core Beliefs

I believe that each of us are born whole, with a natural capacity for growth an expansion. As we go about living our lives, a complex web of life experiences, family and societal expectations cover up our true nature. We shape ourselves to fit in. There is a lot of wisdom in this - it keeps us safe and connected. And, in this process, we may lose lose sight of who we really are. We get disconnected from our dreams. While we may be happy and content, we may have a nagging feeling that there is more to life.

I view Transformational Coaching as process of “un-peeling the onion” and re-awakening to our true nature, of coming home to ourselves. There is nothing to improve - you are already perfect! From this place, everything becomes possible and you become the author of your own life.

My approach

My coaching process begins with helping you to uncover and align on your deepest longings and purpose. We will then design and co-create practices guiding your energy towards creating a flourishing life, whatever that means for you. Together, we will identify beliefs or behaviors that don't serve your true worth, recognizing them “simply” as out-dated survival mechanisms developed to feel safe, connected, and loved. In our coaching journey, we'll work to transform these limiting beliefs, unhelpful thoughts and habits, while fostering new ways of being that support you in living your best life.

Presence

    • A key skill in creating lasting change is self-awareness.

    • To have self-awareness one needs to be able to be in the present moment to notice and be with thoughts, sensations and emotions as they arise.

    • This is also known as Mindfulness, the ability to pay attention on purpose in the present moment without judgment*, and it is a helpful tool to building the ‘muscle’ of self-awareness.

    • Through our work together we will work to build your capacity for presence as a way of discovering what is true for you.

Psychology

    • Developmental psychology, including adult development theory is among the backbones of the coaching craft.

    • Other fields of psychology that inform my practice include Positive Psychology, Internal Family Systems, and Jungian Shadow Work.

    • As we work together, we may explore one or more of these areas.

Somatics

    • The word Somatics is derived from the Greek word “Soma”, a beautiful concept that describes our body/mind/spirit as we feel it from the inside. It encompasses sensations, emotions, AND thoughts.

    • It views the Body as a living, feeling entity, not just an object or form separate from our mind.

    • We understand the body/mind as an integrated whole that exists within the context of a larger world. We have been shaped (literally) by this context, just as we shape the world through our own energy and actions.

    • Through Somatic practices, we will work to unlock the intelligence of your Soma, opening up the possibility of a new shape that will allow you to move towards your purpose with confidence.

Neuroscience

    • My coaching approach draws on the latest findings in neuroscience, incorporating evidence-based practices from the fields of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology, to promote wellbeing and personal transformation.

    • Research has shown that neuroscience-backed practices can activate the brain's stress-reducing and relaxation response, leading to reduced anxiety, improved mood, and increased cognitive functioning.

Trauma-informed

    • Let me be clear: coaching is NOT a substitute for working with a skilled therapist!

    • While the coaching process is forward looking - focusing on the life you want to create - the process can sometimes uncover surprises that take us back to our past.

    • Our shaping and resistance to change is often a result of our reaction to what happened to us in life.

    • This is why I bring a trauma-informed approach to my coaching practice.

    • My initial interest in this field evolved from a need to do my own trauma work. It has been, and still is, an ongoing journey, and it is my hope that I can leverage my research, learnings and deep work for your benefit.

Habit Change

    • "Atomic Habits", "Tiny Habits", "Good Habits, Bad Habits" - there is no dearth of book titles that aim to teach you how to change habits.

    • My perspective is that lasting habit change has more staying-power when working from the inside-out (i.e., embodied change) than through top-down approaches that tell you to change your thoughts.

    • We will work to unwind unhelpful habits, replacing them with new habits that allow you to be a full expression of yourself.
